As much as the general intelligence, emotional intelligence or emotional quotient is equally essential. In this blog, Rubina Ratnakar signifies the importance of emotional intelligence and improving emotional intelligence.

A person should be able to recognize his as well as others’ emotions. The ability to recognize and deal with emotions is what we call emotional intelligence. Since at the workplace we are dealing with people with emotions and not with some machines, we should take care of them also.

To make a healthy and welcoming environment we need to understand every person and make everyone comfortable with the work. This will make your employees stay forever. A bad or irrational environment will lead to employees leaving their organization or company. Happy employees will work with more happiness, interest, put in more effort, and lead to higher productivity. So, keeping them mentally or emotionally happy and content is an important thing to do.

Talking about the assessment of the emotional quotient of individuals, while taking an interview, it is very important to access the emotional intelligence of the candidate. It is necessary to know that will heshe be able to fit in your company or not. So, emotional intelligence is as important as general intelligence.

Emotional intelligence has five important components that will determine the EQ of a person. They are self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. We need to work on these factors individually in order to increase overall emotional intelligence.

To increase your emotional intelligence you should express your emotions and not hide them. Once you know about your different reactions to different situations, only then you will be able to control them.

Observe people around you and ask for their opinion about things. You need to know about their opinion and thinking in order to deal with them emotionally. Instead of being vigilant to some issues created by the employees, try to understand them and their emotions at that time. If you try to understand why did they do what they did, you will eventually get better at the EQ. You need to put in a lot of effort and patience in order to become emotionally intelligent. Keep on practicing in order to achieve your goal.
