When it comes to completing a lot of work, we often get confused about the task’s importance. Very important tasks need to be done first, that is what we have been using as the basis. On the other hand, we believe that there are two factors that determine the task’s importance, urgency, and importance. By considering both these factors, we can prioritize the tasks. In this blog, Rubina Ratnakar helps you in prioritizing tasks for the timely completion of the work.
First, you should have a list that contains all the tasks to be done every day. Make it a habit to write down all your tasks in a notebook or diary. After you have written the tasks, you should make their categories. The two determinants should be importance and urgency.
The tasks can be divided into 4 different categories. They are namely, important and urgent, not important but urgent, important but not urgent, and not important, not urgent. Once you divide all your tasks into these activities, you would see that you have done most of your work. The tasks that are important and urgent need to be done first. The tasks that are urgent but not important shall be done next. The tasks that are not important but urgent shall be written and placed in a place where you don’t forget them. The tasks that are neither important nor urgent should be removed from the list.
Another thing that will determine the prioritizing of the tasks is how difficult is a task and how much time is it going to take to complete the task. The tasks that are going to take a lot of effort need to be done in a lot of time. The tasks that are easy to complete and do not require much effort should be done right away.
You need to make your approach a bit focused on long-term goals. If you think of the long-term achievement and then divide it into smaller tasks, this will be a great way to prioritize your tasks on the basis of their long-term accomplishment.
