We come across many situations when we meet someone elderly and more experienced than us and we pay our respect to them in every way. Not only the experienced people but all the people you meet should also be treated with respect and dignity. Every person is equally respectable regardless of their economic position and social status. In this blog, Rubina Ratnakar lists some ways of expressing respect to others.

We shall start by the most common bridge between any two people, that is, having a conversation over something. When we are talking to someone, we should listen to them carefully. This is one of the ways of expressing respect to that person and showing him or her that you really care about their thoughts. Active listening is a life skill that should be present in everyone. Do not fool around or behave in a distracted manner when someone is trying to have a serious conversation with you.

Make it a habit to appreciate and thank people who do anything for you. Even if your workmate does a small favor to you, you should acknowledge that and thank him. Acknowledgment of someone’s effort and thanking them will go a long way in your personality building.

Kindness and politeness are two qualities that when acquired will be a direct way of expressing respect. Always be kind and polite to others when you talk to them. Not just talking, even your actions should be of kindness and politeness. A person will always remember a person who is polite and sweet to talk to rather than someone who is arrogant and ignoring.

If you can help the people around you in any way, you should help them. For example, if in a workplace you know a skill that your colleague doesn’t, you should help him with that. Knowledge should be shared in order to increase it. If you help someone, the person will also help you in your time of need. Small actions can make a big difference.
