To maintain a good relationship and a good level of communication with others, good listening skill is one of the important elements to look after. In this blog, Rubina Ratnakar talks about the importance of good listening and how to become a good listener.
While having a good conversation, speaking and listening are both very important aspects. A good listener is one who listens to the speaker carefully and doesn’t interrupt the speaker in between. If you want your thoughts to be taken seriously, you have to listen to others carefully too.
If you listen carefully, only then you will be able to assess what the speaker wants to convey. A good listener always listens carefully and remembers all the small facts about the conversation and the speaker.
While doing team-work, listening is an important element. Since everyone’s opinion is important, you need to listen to everyone and then make a decision. Teamwork is based on collective effort and decisions. If you will not listen to the team members, they will feel neglected.
From the side of the employees, you need to be a good listener too. If you don’t listen to the instructions or guidelines of your head then you will eventually face problems. Make sure you listen to them carefully and follow them. Your body language says a lot about your interest in a certain conversation. So, sit straight and make eye contact with the speaker and give responses where necessary. Relax and pay full attention to the speaker. Avoid distractions when talking to someone.
Always be open to the opinions and perspectives of other people. Different people can have different points of view so listen to the speaker and then analyze them.
One of the most important things that you have to take care of is that you should never interrupt someone while they are speaking and give your opinion. Wait for them to complete their part and then speak what you want. Do not try to criticize others, ask questions in a polite and doubt-clearing manner.
